Vision Statement:
The St. Thomas More Newman Center seeks to strengthen the Catholic faith that students, faculty and staff bring from their home churches into the university community.
The Newman Center provides a place for people who are often seeking guidance and support in their lives. The home-like feeling encourages students and others to become involved in the work of the Newman Center. Careful planning and leadership provide a framework within which members, especially students, can participate fully in a faith-based environment. From this experience, leaders and active members of the Catholic Church can emerge.
Mission Statement:
- The St. Thomas More Newman Center seeks to serve the University of South Dakota Community, with a particular emphasis on service to students, including those who come from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- The Newman Center provides a place for worship and an environment to support the members’ spiritual, intellectual, and moral growth through prayer, liturgy, teaching, retreats, socializing, service projects and other activities.
- The Newman Center provides models and mentors for religious and lay lives to assist members in discovering and living their own call from God.
- The Newman Center seeks to be a stable influence by our Catholic presence in the midst of frequent turnover though graduation and career moves.
- The Newman Center, by cooperating with university administration and groups, extends its influence for Christ beyond the doors of its own facilities.
